This prison, home to the famous tiger cages, is one of eleven and the largest in the archipelago
One of the eleven - and the largest - prisons in this archipelago once devoted to confinement and isolation. Here are the famous tiger cages, first built and used by the French, then reopened by the regime of the Republic of Vietnam. Political and common law prisoners were piled up here in inhuman conditions. During the French period, prisoners were stripped naked and chained together. A very dark chapter in our history that we must remember by visiting this site.
