CONVENTO DE MERCEDARIOS
Convent featuring Plateresque, Gothic and Baroque styles, as well as coats of arms of noble families who passed through the convent
Also known as the Santa Maria Madalena monastery, it was built between the 13th and 14th centuries and modified in the 16th. It combines different styles: Plateresque for the façade, Gothic for the cloister and Baroque for the Carros door and bell tower. It is said to have been founded by two Italians who wished to assist pilgrims. The building bears the coats of arms of various noble families who passed through the convent, including the Castro, Balboa and Somoza families. Today, it is inhabited by monks dedicated to worship and teaching.
