The Salinas d'Añana Salt Valley, located 30 kilometers from Vitoria-Gasteiz, is one of the oldest salt factories in the world, with over 6,500 years of history. Its salt is renowned for its purity, coming from an ancient sea over 200 million years ago. This spectacular, well-preserved cultural landscape is one of the most remarkable in Europe. Visitors to the Vallée Salée can discover the unique architecture of this unusual cultural landscape, stroll along the platforms where salt water is evaporated to obtain salt, and even soak their feet and hands in the salt water. The Salt Valley is also known for its unique ecosystem due to its salinity. In addition to the salt factory, Salinas d'Añana is also home to important archaeological remains from medieval times, as well as the Palacio Torre de los Varona, a citadel inhabited since the 12th century.
