With panoramic views over Souda Bay, the Vamos village valley and the White Mountains, the Aétopholia tavern (eagles' nest) offers authentic Cretan mountain dishes: lamb in wine (Sfakia recipe), rabbit stew, pork fricassee or, especially on Sundays, baked piglet. The grills are exquisite, and the food and salads are of the highest quality. Don't leave before you try the meatballs! The bread is sourdough and baked over a wood fire. A very good address.

This is an address that really deserves a detour as the dishes (all homemade from day to day) are so tasty! The waitress will be happy to explain you the specialities of the day. Among them: local sausages, rabbit stew, stuffed zucchini flowers with a creamy yoghurt, salads... Even the setting is appreciable: the terrace is shaded by a majestic tree, drowned in the song of the crickets... You can also opt for the room inside the establishment and its guns on the walls.

This is the tavern of the Vamos association, dating from 1905! In the main room of the building was a cistern, still used today to keep drinks cool! Here you can taste local specialities cooked over a wood fire: stews, coq au vin with homemade pasta, snails, cuttlefish in tomato and fennel sauce. A wide variety of local cheeses and wines are also available. Very frequented by artists, the atmosphere becomes easily festive... Concerts are organized there some summer evenings.
