An island with beautiful beaches off Goudouras.

Not to be confused with the island of the Little Eastern Cyclades which bears the same name. The Koufonissi we are talking about here is located off the coast of Goudouras, and is reached from the port of Makri Gialos. This island, which archaeologists call "Little Delos", was inhabited during the post-Byzantine period and most probably during the Minoan period. Koufonissi has a beautiful beach near the ruins of a Roman theatre. It is also where the snails used to dye the togas of the Roman emperors in purple lived.
