Of course it serves traditional Cretan specialties cooked with local olive oil, including fresh grilled fish, the famous rosemary snails, rabbit, mussels in tomato sauce and sheep's cheese. It is a family affair with Mum in the kitchen, the son in the dining room and his brother who runs the Hotel Zafira just behind the tavern, where you can stay all year round. Deckchairs are free for restaurant and hotel guests.

Read moreAt the port, on the waterfront in the old town, this tavern was created in 1936 by the Frangiadaki family. It is run by Nikos, a French-speaking man, who prepares, with organic products from his farm, traditional cuisine at reasonable prices. Other specialties are stuffed zucchini flowers, snails in rosemary tomato sauce, good quality grilled octopus, cuttlefish in wine, keftés, or swordfish. The fresh fish is brought daily by his fishing buddies from Ierapetra. Map in French. Wifi.
