The most famous cave in the area of Heraklion.
This cave is one of the best known in the Heraklion region. It served as a place of worship from the Neolithic period until the5th century AD. Its name is that of the goddess of childbirth and fertility to whom it was dedicated (Eileithyia was the daughter of Hera and Zeus). The cave is 65 m long, 12 m deep and 4 m high and contains stalactites. A large part of the objects discovered in this cave during archaeological excavations are currently on display at the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion.
