THÉÂTRE CSOKONAI (CSOKONAI SZÍNHÁZ)

This is the city's oldest theater, founded in 1865. Its varied program includes classical plays, operas, musicals and family shows. Among the artists who have left their mark on the stage are Lujza Blaha, the ^19th-century "queen of Hungarian theater"; Zoltán Latinovits, one of Hungary's most famous and respected ^20th-century actors; and Géza Hofi, a legendary Hungarian humorist and comedian. The theater building is well worth a visit.
