ERKEL FERENC HOUSE (ERKEL FERENC EMLÉKHÁZ)
A museum dedicated to Ferenc Erkel, the great Hungarian composer, housed in his birthplace in Gyula.
Ferenc Erkel (1810-1893), the great Hungarian composer and author of the national anthem and the opera Bánk Bán, was born in Gyula. His birthplace, a single-storey house behind the church, has been converted into a museum. On display are personal objects, scores, period instruments and a reconstruction of the 19th-century musical world. One room is devoted to his musical descendants, and another to the singers and conductors who performed his works.
