PLACE SZÉCHENYI
A remarkable square in Szeged, one of the largest in Central Europe, with a statue of István Széchenyi.
The statue of István Széchenyi and the statue of engineer Pál Vásárhelyi, who directed the river regulation works, are located here. A commemorative plaque shows the water level at the time of the 1970 floods. Opposite the town hall, two bronze statues depict the river Tisza (devastating force and source of blessing). Among the square's beautiful facades are the Zsóter House, a classical-style mansion, and the Hotel Tisza, a landmark of Szeged's artistic and literary life.
