KATONA JÓZSEF THEATER
Theater housed in a remarkable Baroque building behind the Trinity Column in Kecskemét.
The small building of the City Theatre (Katona József Színház) is a real gem. It was built at the end of the 19th century for the millennium celebration, in an eclectic style, by two Viennese, Hermann Hellmer and Ferdinand Fellner, architects of some of the most famous European theaters of the time. József Katona, born in Kecskemét, wrote the dramatic play Bánk Bán, Hungary's favorite opera.
In front of the theater stands a beautiful Baroque monument, the Trinity Column, built after the plague epidemic of 1739-1740.
