This ancient wine-growing region in the eastern foothills of the pre-Alps is famous for its light, tangy, deep carmine-colored soproni kékfrankos red wine. The cool climate and limestone soil give the reds plenty of tannin. Local producers are distinguished by a wreath of woven straw at the entrance to their estate. Every year, János and Zoltán Gangl produce a tasty sauvignon blanc and a high-quality red kékfrankos.
