Large square in Sopron's old town, with listed houses and a remarkable votive column.
This is the main square of the old town, where every house is listed as a historic monument. In the center of the square stands one of Hungary's most beautiful votive columns, the Trinity Column, erected by János Jakab Löwenburg (1685-1701) for his wife, Eva Katharina Thököly, following the great plague that ravaged Austria and Hungary in 1679. Both are immortalized, by their respective statues, in an imploring gesture at the foot of the column.
