STORNO HOUSE (STORNO HÁZ)
Baroque-style house to visit in Sopron, home to the town's historical museum and the Storno family's fine collection.
The square's prettiest corner house dates back to the 15th century (1417). In winter 1482-1483, King Mátyás stayed here during his military campaign in Austria. Franz Liszt stayed here twice. Originally Gothic, it was rebuilt in 1720 in Baroque style (with a late Renaissance façade). Ferenc Storno bought the house in 1875. The Stornos were known to be passionate art collectors. A fine private collection to discover.
