CENTRAL PARK
The beautiful central square, pleasant and fresh, with benches and kiosks to watch the passers-by
The lovely, cool central square is affectionately known as "Mango Square" by the locals. It adjoins the cathedral with its curious red dome, in a neighborhood dating back to the 19th century. All around the Parque Central, benches and kiosks provide a place to rest for a moment and watch the passers-by. Opposite the cathedral, which was damaged in the 1991 earthquake, stands the Alajuela Cultural Centre, built in 1914 and home to the former Municipal Palace, and now classified as a Relic of Historical and Cultural Interest.
