PARC DE LA COLLINE DES COULEURS ACCUMULÉES
Park with beautiful carved Buddhas from the Tang dynasty
Undoubtedly one of Guilin's most fascinating parks, it owes its name to the superimposed layers of limestone that give the rock its varied hues, reminiscent of strata of coloured silk. Situated on the banks of the Li River, the hill rises to 223 metres, offering superb panoramic views of the city and surrounding area.
At the entrance, the first grotto reveals magnificent Buddhist sculptures from the Tang dynasty, whose features have been partially erased by time and the fervour of the faithful. Despite erosion, the finesse of the original work remains visible as you approach the bas-reliefs. But it's the impressive rocky outcrop in the heart of the town that really stands out, a spectacular natural vestige of the region's geological formation.
Along the way, an aviary is home to a number of exotic birds, adding a lively touch to the walk. But it's climbing the 480 steps to the summit that brings us to the real jewel of the park. After a 10-15 minute climb, the view opens up to an exceptional panorama of Guilin and the Li River winding through the karst mountains. Here, thousands of padlocks hanging from protective chains bear witness to the love vows left by couples, perpetuating a romantic tradition that extends beyond China's borders. This park, a Guilin must-see, can be visited on foot, via a network of signposted paths. Allow 1 to 2 hours.
