Foshan means "Buddha Hill" because of the presence of three Buddha statues. The third largest city in Guangdong Province, Foshan has over 3.5 million inhabitants and covers 4,000 km ². This city of over 2,000 years of history is highly industrialized nowadays and does not present any tourist charm at first sight. However, the city contains a magnificent temple (Zu Miao or the Temple of Ancestors), the most beautiful of the region, which alone is worth traveling. Foshan also attracts martial arts enthusiasts: There is a museum in memory of the legendary kung-fu master Wong Fei Hung (1847-1925), famous from the film series Once in China (from Tsui Hark, with Jet Li).
