Zhongshan (Middle Mountain) covers 1,800 km ² and has about 2.5 million inhabitants. The city formerly known as Xiangshan (Perfumed Mountain) was recognized in honor of Dr. Zhongshan, better known as Sun Yat-sen, born in Cuiheng, a small village near Zhongshan Prefecture. Zhongshan is considered one of the «four little Tiangdong tigers». Indeed, the proximity of the city with Hong Kong, Macao and Canton/Guangzhou has enabled it to enjoy a thriving economy for several years. This new Chinese industrial city, although it does not have an important tourist interest, remains a pleasant stopover; its numerous parks and colonial districts give it a unique charm.
