A visit to Su Nuraxi in Barumini, in central Sardinia, is an experience you'll never forget. We tell you everything you need to know to get organized.

What is the Su Nuraxi site in Barumini?

Su Nuraxi is a nuraghe, a prehistoric construction typical of Sardinia. Nuraghi (plural) consist of a single round tower and appeared on the island between the 15th century BC and the end of the 10th century BC. They are characteristic of the Nuragic civilization, a prehistoric people who inhabited Sardinia. They left almost 20,000 of these constructions on the island, but Su Nuraxi is probably the most emblematic.

It's worth noting that this one is particularly imposing, being almost 20 metres high, so much so that the tower is divided into three storeys. Added to this is a defensive wall and a village made up of some fifty huts, completing the largest archaeological site in Sardinia, and the only one listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site. For all these reasons, a visit to Su Nuraxi in Barumini is a must in Sardinia.
