This area, home to the town of the same name, is reputed to be the hottest spot in Australia, with an average temperature of 40°C. Its name comes from the red-marbled stones found here, which have been mistaken for marble. So check out the fake marble, and swim nearby. The town was founded in 1893 following the discovery of gold in the region in 1890, when 5,000 gold miners came to the area. The most famous building here is undoubtedly the Iron Clad Hotel, built in the 1890s, with its corrugated iron roof.
