The Margaret River region is particularly renowned for the quality of its waves. Along with Bells Beach in Victoria, it's one of the two Australian stops on the World Surf League. There are plenty of spots along the coast - ask other surfers, they're not hard to find! South Point in Gracetown or Grunters in Prevelly are recommended for beginners.
