NAPWERTE / EWANINGA ROCK CARVINGS
A small but very impressive site, located 35 km south of Alice Springs, distinguished by sacred engravings dating back 30,000 years.
Ewaninga Rock Carvings, named Napwerte after the Arrernte, is a small site that we found very impressive, with its rock carvings (petroglyphs), some of which date back 30,000 years! The Arrernte have opened the site to the public, but certain sacred areas are off-limits to Aboriginal women. Located 35 km south of Alice Springs on a track not suitable for small cars. Combine with a meal or overnight stay at Ooraminna Station Homestead.
