Back on Diamantina, halfway to Mount Isa, Boulia is a small village on the edge of the great desert. In the local language, Boulia means "clear water hole", and the locality is famous for its mysterious Min Min lights, probably due to gases coming from artesian wells... but rumours and legends abound! Explorers Burke and Wills also passed through here, and a tiny museum is dedicated to them in a small stone house dating from 1888. To extend your stay, you'll find two motels and a campsite. A camel race is held on the third weekend in July.
