Diamantina National Park is one of Queensland's most remote parks. The park stretches from the steep hills and mesas to the Diamantina River bed and tributaries in the south, crossing the Mitchell Grass plains and the beginning of the sand desert in the west. It is home to many endangered animals including the bilby, the peregrine falcon and the kowari, the bushy-tailed marsupial rat. The incredible colors of this park will delight photographers: the evolution of the landscape, the change of the earth's hues as the sun sets, evolving from a metallic orange to a flaming red and then to a deep purple, are a mesmerizing sight.
