Windorah is a small town at the confluence of the Barcoo and Thomson rivers that joined to form the Cooper's Creek. Its name means "big fish" Aboriginal, which can be found in this river. You can also camp near Cooper's Creek. The city also houses the famous tree at the foot of which Burke and Wills died on return from their expedition from Adelaide to the Gulf of Carpentaria. 10 km west of the city you will see the Big Red Sand Dunes. Their deep red is due to the iron oxide contained in the sand.
