Scone, a small town in the northern Hunter Valley, is considered the horse capital of Australia and home to the most famous studs (horse breeders). It is said to be the largest horse breeding region in the world after Kentucky in the United States. However, apart from the Scone Horse Festival which takes place here every year in May, Scone unfortunately has no particular point of interest. However, about 30 kilometers north, the Burning Mountain Nature Reserve is a spectacular site where the mountains smoke like volcanoes. These fumes come from the reaction of coal seams with air.
