Located some two hundred kilometers from Sydney and a little less than sixty kilometers north of Newcastle, Port Stephens is home to several beautiful bays named Salamander Bay, Nelson Bay, Shoal Bay, Fingal Bay and Anna Bay. The main activities are swimming and cruising to meet the resident colony of dolphins or humpbacks, which migrate along the coast in winter and spring. Nelson Bay is the nerve center of the peninsula. This is where you will find the Port Stephens Visitor Center. D'Albora Marina is the main center of activity, whether it's cruise departures, restaurants or shopping. So it's a pretty busy place. Shoal Bay and Fingal Bay, in the eastern residential areas of the peninsula, offer a slightly wilder environment than Nelson Bay and provide relative seclusion in a beautiful landscape.
