OPME GARDENS
Italian-style terraced gardens created in 1613 by Antoine de Ribeyre at Romagnat.
These formal gardens were created in 1613 by Antoine de Ribeyre. With their superimposed Italian-style terraces, they extend the 11th-century château, one of the oldest in the region. The first terrace features a circular pool. A double staircase, topped by a balustrade, leads up to the second terrace, where the flower beds form geometrical figures of flowers, fruit trees and vegetables. A magnificent fountain with two basins, dated 1617, follows on from the first basin. It is attributed to Jacques Androuet du Cerceau, the architect who designed the Place des Vosges in Paris and began work on the Pont Neuf.
