Telde is a town with a historic center of cultural interest. The surrounding countryside, known as "la vega mayor", is characterized by sugar cane, bananas, cucumbers and flowers. A stroll through the center of Telde reveals austere neighborhoods with historic houses once inhabited by Franciscans. The neighborhoods of San Juan and San Francisco are home to many interesting works of art and buildings, including the San Pedro Mártir church. Don't miss the basilica of San Juan Bautista, with its large altarpiece and the Christ of Telde, made by the Indians of Michoacán (Mexico). The 19th-century La Concepción church is another religious building not to be missed. Telde also offers tourist attractions such as the León and Castillo House Museum, the Risco Caído cultural landscape and the Sacred Mountains of Gran Canaria, as well as the Gran Canaria Biosphere Reserve.
