FIESTA DE LA RAMA

Many Grancanarios come to Agaete to participate in one of the most traditional and original festivals of the archipelago. Its history is based on an aboriginal belief that the gods are invoked to bring rain. The participants have to fetch a pine branch in the mountains and then come down to the sound of instruments and head for the beach. The ritual is completed by striking the surface of the sea with the branch, invoking rain. The following day, the Virgin of Las Nieves is taken to Agaete.
