BAJADA DE LA VIRGEN DE LOS REYES

The Virgen de los Reyes festival takes place every four years in El Hierro, the most important of the island. Dating from 1740 and originating in the memory of an interminable drought: after a procession in the name of the Virgin, rain fell on the island, saving herds and inhabitants. Today, the image of the Virgen is accompanied by a procession of dancers and musicians in traditional costumes who parade to the sound of chácaras, a kind of castanets.
