VENETIAN CITADEL

With its beautiful 360° view over the sea and the interior of the island, the Venetian citadel offers one of the most beautiful panoramas of the city. The exact date of the first construction of the castle is not certain, but it is estimated to have been around 1480, just after the occupation of the island. A major conservation programme was carried out by the British in 1812 when they controlled the island. Today, the walls no longer protect anything but surround a very pleasant park. You can also have a drink in the evening on the church square a little further down.
