Historic Byzantine castle with a panoramic view of the bay of Palaiokatritsa.

Continue past Krini on the imperfect path to Angelokastro. The "Castle of the Angels" is a historic Byzantine building perched 305 metres above sea level - making it a strategic defence point against pirates and later against the Ottoman siege attempts. From the 14th to the 17th century, the castle served as the capital of the island. It includes a church, a chapel and a circular tower within its walls. Above all, it offers an impressive view of the entire bay of Palaiokatritsa.

Une montée pour une belle vue
Je suis montée au château , la montée est raide mais vaut le coût car elle permet d’accéder aux restes du château mais aussi d'admirer de beaux paysages et d'avoir une vue sur Paleokastritsa.
Fin avril la visite était gratuite. Au départ de la montée un bar pour se désaltérer.

Le Château des Anges n'est plus que ruine désormais mais il offre une vue magnifique sur les environs.

L'accession aux ruines du château n'est qu'un agréable prétexte à la mise en valeur d'un superbe panorama !
Situé à moins de 10 km de Krini, sur la côte ouest de l'île, le site reste peu fréquenté des touristes et accessible à tous. Attention néanmoins à ne pas laisser vos têtes blondes s'approcher trop près des barrières, très peu sécuritaires.
