DROGARATI CAVE

It was discovered by chance 300 years ago when a strong earthquake caused a collapse that revealed the entrance to the cave. In 1963, it was opened to the public. Unlike the Melissani cave, exploration here is on foot. A long staircase leads to a superb underground room 44 m below ground called the Apotheosis room because of the beauty of its stalagmites and stalactites and especially its exceptional acoustics. Sometimes concerts are held there. Maria Callas also sang there in the past.
