CHAUVET LAKE
Visit of the second deepest lake of the department after the lake Pavin.
After Lake Pavin, Lake Chauvet is the second deepest lake in the department. It is a volcanic lake. Its banks curve gently and rise in steps to the main crater which is hidden under the cover of a forest of old beech trees. You can take a walk along the towpath which skirts the lake to the right, provided you wear suitable footwear. Swimming and canoeing are prohibited. For the anecdote, François Mitterrand regularly went to the lake Chauvet where he used to fish.
