Beaches with turquoise water for sea lovers in Koufonissia.

Ready for a great tour? Because there is no lack of beaches in Koufounissi. As the locals say: Welcome to Paradise! And they are right. Sea lovers will be in heaven, as these are some of the most beautiful beaches in the whole Cycladic archipelago.
Ammos Beach is the closest beach to the port and also the largest stretch of sand on the island. This is a good omen: ammos means "sand" in Greek. Promise kept! This is where you will probably make your first splash when you arrive! The waters are shallow, which explains their turquoise color worthy of tropical lagoons. It is appreciated by families for its safe bottoms and is therefore very popular. If you are lucky, you can find a shaded area and spend the whole day there, with all the restaurants and cafes nearby.
Chondros Kavos, a ten minute walk east of the village, is the next beach you will find. This pebbled cove is sheltered, the waters are crystal clear and ideal for snorkeling. You can have a meal at the nearby tavern of the same name.
Harakopou or Finikas Beach is another beautiful stretch of sand with crystal clear waters, the first on the beautiful southern coast of Koufounissi starting from the port. Protected from the wind, it is very pleasant. It is often better known as Finikas, also the name of the popular beach café-restaurant, where you can stop for a drink or a meal. This beach is sandy as can be, with shallow waters. You can dive around the rocks and caves nearby. By a coastal path you can reach Fanos Beach with its tamarisk trees and tavern.
Fanos Beach is a five minute walk from Finikas, following the coastal road. It is one of the most popular beaches of Ano Koufonisi. The sea is very similar to Finikas, with several coves and bays to explore. There is also a bar-restaurant where you can spend a few hours, with a nice collection of umbrellas and deckchairs.
Platia Pounda (or Italida Beach) is a virgin beach, without cafes or tavernas, beyond Fanos Beach continuing on the south coast. Its name means "the Italian". It is very popular and is said to have been named after an Italian owner who bought land in the area. Please note that it is not shaded.
PoriBeach is the closest beach to the village of Finikas. Widely considered as the most beautiful beach of the island, it is also one of the most frequented. It is exposed to the meltem so it can be rough some days. There are two taverns serving food and drinks. From Pori, you can also walk along the rocky cliffs and observe from above the impressive caves of Xilompatis as well as the Devil's Eye (to the south) which are worth a visit.
Gala is a pebble beach adjacent to a cave, a few steps away from Pori. The name of this small cove means "milk" in Greek, because of the white foam created by the waves when it is windy (which does not make swimming easy).
Loutro and Spilia are two other small coves west of the main village. They are mainly frequented by locals. They may not be as beautiful as Finikas or Pori, but they are much less populated, which gives them a rare charm if you want more privacy!
