Archaeological site of exceptional quality for conservation work.
Following excavations begun in 1896 (and still continuing today), a settlement was discovered in the eastern part of the hill, and parts of buildings in the western part, towards the port. All these discoveries show that the settlement was active in the early Copper Age. Skarkos is therefore the largest settlement known to date at the highest point of the ancient Cycladic world. In excellent condition, it covers an area of around 1 hectare.
