The neighborhood to the north-east of the port, the most charming of Ermoupolis.

North-east of the port, the district of Vaporia is certainly the most charming district of Ermoupolis. During the 19th century, it was the commercial heart of the city: negotiations were concluded here and goods were exported from its bay. All the wealthiest merchants had beautiful houses built with colourful facades that can still be admired today. You will see large neo-classical style villas spreading aristocratically along the bay. The entrance to the district is guarded by the church of Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of Syros.
