MONASTERE DE PANAGIA KASTRIANI

This monastery is located on a beautiful site overlooking the sea. Built on the site of Kastri (the castle), it took the name of Kastriani. From the garden, a magnificent viewpoint sweeps over Kea and the Aegean Sea. The monastery was built on the site where, in 1700, shepherds, attracted by a light, discovered an icon of the miraculous Virgin. The church has remained a place of pilgrimage since its construction in 1708 and celebrates every year the 15th of August with fervor.
