SYNAGOGUE AND THE JEWISH QUARTER OF BARBOUTA

The Jewish quarter of Barbouta is located on the other side of the ramparts, it forms a triangle with the river, the Byzantine walls and Merarchias Street. As you stroll around, you will notice the singular architecture of the houses: condemned ground floor, higher building height, very symmetrical facades and baroque decorations. The synagogue, built shortly before 1850 and saved by the Bishop of Veria and Naoussa from Nazi destruction, can be pushed as far as the synagogue.
