İSHAK-PAŞA MOSQUE
Ottoman mosque with double dome and five domes (c. 1484). Host to exhibitions as part of the Biennale d'art contemporain.
Built around 1484, this Ottoman mosque (Ισάκ Πασά Τζαμί/İshak Paşa Tzami) is distinguished by its double dome and five-domed porch. Closed to worship since 1923, it has lost its minaret and two ancillary buildings, a medersa (Koranic school) and an imaret (hospice), but retains fragments of frescoes. Also known as the "Colorful Imaret"(Alaca İmaret in Turkish, Α λατζά Ιμαρέτ/Alatza İmaret i n Greek), it sometimes hosts exhibitions, notably during the Thessaloniki Biennial of Contemporary Art (odd-numbered years).
