Ancient stadium entirely covered with marble having hosted the first Olympic Games of the modern era.
Behind the National Garden, at the entrance to the Pangrati district, the Kallimarmaro or "marble stadium" is also called the Panathinaiko stadium. In 1896, it hosted the first modern Olympic Games and the arrival of marathon running during the 2004 Games. It was built on the site of an ancient stadium and entirely covered with marble. It is also the end of the annual marathon, which follows the historic route of the race between Marathon and Athens.
