The place doesn't look like much and that's probably why it's so good. Installed above the meat market since the 1930s, Stoa Athanaton - translate "passage of the immortals" - is considered as the temple of the rebetiko in particular, but especially of Greek folk music in general. Rather reserved for regulars, it is closed in summer. For the rest, the atmosphere remains smoky (despite the law), the cuisine is not worth the detour but it is here that the best musicians appear to be performing.
