The Franciscans arrived in Samobor in the 16th century, but settled here in the 17th century, when construction of the monastery began. Initially built of wood and destroyed several times by fire, it was rebuilt in stone and completed in 1618. A Baroque-style church was added. It houses a rich inventory of Baroque works of art, including a monumental 18th-century fresco depicting the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
