Visit Montenegro's Bay of Kotor, one of the most picturesque spots on the Adriatic Sea and the largest bay on the Adriatic. Because of its strategic importance in this turbulent region, it has been ruled by many different nations. Each of them left their mark, which can be seen today in a magnificent blend of architectural influences. Romans, Turks, Venetians, Austrians - each nation has left its mark on this region and its towns. After leaving Dubrovnik and taking a panoramic route through the Konavle valley, we enter Montenegro, stopping briefly in Verige to take photos of the magnificent landscape just before entering the Bay of Kotor. We continue along the coast, passing through Risan and Perast, to reach Kotor. Often considered the best-preserved and prettiest town in Montenegro, this UNESCO-listed walled city is famous for its ramparts, Venetian-inspired architecture, beautiful churches and rich history of maritime trade and navigation.Whether independent or part of the Byzantine Empire, Serbian Kingdom or Venetian Republic, Perast is perhaps one of the most historically intriguing places in Boka Kotorska. Its heyday was under Venetian rule, with four active shipyards and a fleet of some 100 vessels. Perast's Baroque and Renaissance palaces and narrow streets will take you back to a time when the city's inhabitants lived in luxury and wealth. In Perast, you can take a boat and visit Our Lady of the Rocks. Legend has it that in 1452, two brothers found the image of Mary on a rock in the sea. One of the brothers was miraculously cured. Since then, locals have been bringing rocks and sinking boats alongside the rock. An island was formed, and first a chapel was built, then a church in its place. Some call it the Croatian Sistine Chapel, due to the works of art that enrich its walls.
