A fortress on the islet of Ljuljevac, representing a unique example of Venetian Renaissance military architecture.
On the islet of Ljuljevac, at the entrance to the St. Anthony Canal, where the Benedictine monastery of St. Nicholas once stood, the fortress represents a unique example of Venetian military architecture of the Renaissance period. Founded on the plans of Gian Girolamo San Micheli, construction began in 1540 after the river city of Skradin fell under Ottoman rule. Its original shape, covering the entire island land, also contributes to its exceptional value. Therefore, in 2017, it was included in the Unesco World Heritage List.
