Šibenik is culturally rich city. It is an ancient cultural center, looked after by many, especially when it comes to preservation of cultural goods. The city has a large librarian and publishing industry festivals and conventions, exhibitions, musical and stage shows, book depositories and museums. In 2003. Šibenik was declared “ The first Croatian Culture City”.
The greatest artistic and architectural riches of the city of Šibenik originate from its golden age which lasted from the end of the 14th until the middle of the 17th century when it became the treasury of artistic and architectural heritage. The most well renowned Šibenik monuments are the St. James Cathedral ( UNESCO), the Town Hall, a Renaissance square between them and the fortresses ( St. Nicholas - UNESCO, St. John, Barone and St. Michael with the most beautiful summer stage).
One can see and experience the greatest part of the riches of Šibenik by walking through its ancient streets, and it is also worth strolling into its museums, churches, taking a look at their historical collections and entering galleries in which many unexpected surprises and valuable spiritual experiences are hidden.
If during any conversation children, singing and music are mentioned at the same time, there is no doubt that the topic is Šibenik. Singing and music have been embedded into very foundations of the old city of Šibenik. It is a musical instrument made of stone which vibrates with the sweet-sounding joy.

St. Michael's Fortress -Where it all Began
Built on a steep rocky hill above the channel, St. Michael’s Fortress has a dominant view over the scattered islands and the medieval. Throughout its turbulent history, the Fortress served as the main point of the city's defence system. The oldest preserved parts are from the 13th century, but most of today's walls and structures date from the 15th and 16th century.
Barone Fortress - More than Reality
Barone Fortress was built by the citizens of Šibenik in 1646 in less than two months, in the wake of the arrival of the Ottoman army during the Cretan War. The works were supervised and organized by Baron von Degenfeld, the commander of the successful defence of Šibenik, after whom the grateful citizens of Šibenik later named the Fortress. This crucial event in the history of Šibenik can be relived today through digital content unique in this region. The technology of augmented reality on the Barone Fortress brings to life characters, sounds and sights of Šibenik of the 17th century.

St. John’s Fortress
St. John’s Fortress was built in 1646, on a 120 meters high hill north of Šibenik’s old town. It was named after the church that had been there for several centuries. The fortress was built during August and September, in only 58 days, as the main point of the new defence system of the city, just before the great attack of the Ottoman army.

The last of them and the most popular is St. Nicholas' fortress. It is under UNESCO World Heritage protection from 2014. It has a triangle shape and is located in the middle of St. Anthony channel. It is entirely surrounded by the sea, and with one steep sandbank connected to the land, so you can go there by foot.
