MUSEUM OF APOXYOMENE
Museum dedicated to the Apoxyomene in Mali Lošinj with multimedia installations from its original period.
This museum is dedicated exclusively to the Apoxyomene, a bronze sculpture of a standing man, naked in his toilet, scraping his skin with a strigile. The ancient Greek colossus was discovered off the coast of Veli Lošinj by divers in 1996. It was brought up to the surface in 1999. After a long period of restoration, it was finally exhibited to the public in 2016 at this museum in Mali Lošinj. Multimedia installations present the history of its period of origin and, through taste, smell, hearing and sight, provide a better understanding of Hellenistic civilization.
