A port, tree-lined avenues, rickshaws, colonial buildings, mosques: Manakara, a peaceful city that receives travelers disembarking from the train from Fianarantsoa, is the heart of the Antemoro country. It is pleasant to stroll in the old city, by rickshaw or on foot, between the old buildings whose ochre is washed by the rains. Today, the city has also made a name for itself around beekeeping. It is possible to make a one-day trip by pirogue on the Pangalanes canal, and even to go up to Mananjary (count 3 or 4 days). The sea here being dangerous, swimming is not recommended.
