CITADELLE

The imposing citadel of Amasra (Amasra Kalesi) is located on a high hill which is attached to the coast by a narrow cordon, which gives a very picturesque aspect to this small city, still surrounded by medieval walls. The enclosure defended an islet attached to the mainland by a narrow stalk extending between two ports. You can access it through three thick doors. Along the walls, you can see Genoese coats of arms embedded in the outer facing. Today, the citadel is a residential area.
